Dexmedetomidine is a new generation highly selective alpha 2-adrenergic receptor ( alpha 2-AR) agonist with Ki value of 1.08 nM, which is associated with sedative and analgesic sparing effects, reduced delirium and agitation, perioperative sympatholysis, cardiovascular stabilizing effects, and preservation of respiratory function.
